Current early snow water equivalent trends along with climate predictions for this winter and for next spring point to above average snowpack in southeastern Wyoming for the upcoming spring runoff. Although is way too early to make definitive predictions on the magnitude of the upcoming runoff, the Wyoming office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports the main key hydrological ingredient could cause above average runoff volumes across that corner of Wyoming. Meanwhile, the snow water equivalent in the Yellowstone basin is currently above normal as well. The NOAA hydrologist, however quickly points out that the magnitude of the spring and early summer runoff is highly dependent on the amount of moisture that Wyoming receives during the late March.
