The University of Utah Seismograph Stations reported that a light earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred at 07:32 am yesterday. The epicenter of the shock was located 23 miles northeast of the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
A total of five earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater have occurred within 16 mi of the epicenter of this event since 1962. The largest of these events was a magnitude 4.2 on March 25th, 2008, 20 miles northeast of Fishing Bridge.

Yellowstone is very seismically active, and so a tremor of this size is not uncommon. Over the past month, two swarms of earthquakes were recorded in the northwestern corner of the park not far from West Yellowstone.
