Wyoming’s economy continued to be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through the fourth quarter of 2020. From fourth quarter 2019 to fourth quarter 2020, Wyoming lost 16,273 jobs, and total payroll fell by $58.4 million. The largest job losses occurred in mining (including oil & gas with 5,923 jobs), followed by leisure & hospitality (with 3,159 jobs), and construction (with 2,786 jobs).
Meanwhile, employment in retail trade rose by 627 jobs. Teton County’s employment fell by 1,034 jobs (or 5.2%), but its total payroll increased by $79.7-million. Leisure & hospitality lost more than 900 jobs, and retail trade lost more than 150 jobs. At the same time, job gains were seen in construction, financial activities, and professional & business services.
