Yellowstone National Park officials are warning visitors that elk calving season will begin soon in the park. During calving season, cow elk are much more aggressive towards people and may run towards you or kick.
Rangers advise, stay alert. Look around corners before exiting buildings or walking around blind spots: cow elk may bed their calves near buildings and sometimes under cars.
Visitors should follow park guidelines to always keep at least 25 yards from elk. If an elk runs towards you, find shelter in your vehicle or behind a tall, sturdy barrier as quickly as possible. Park officials warn that attacks can be unprovoked and unpredictable.
