The elk rut season is in full swing right now and will continue until about mid-October. Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park officials warn that this is a dangerous time as bull elk will consider people and cars threats and may charge. Always keep your distance which should be, at the minimum, 25 yards from elk, and if charged, retreat to shelter in a building or vehicle as quickly as possible. This is also the time when animals begin their migration to their wintering areas. Grand Teton is a corridor for many of these animals, and they follow the same path their ancestors took thousands of years before. Drivers are urged to be watchful of the deer, elk and moose that are currently on the move.
