Reactions to the death of Wyoming’s former US Senator Mike Enzi continue to echo across the state. A statement from the Teton County Republican Party reads, “Wyoming grieves the loss of one of its greatest patriots and most dedicated friends. For decades, Senator Mike Enzi has generously shared his time and talent for the betterment of the people of Wyoming.” US Senator John Barrasso added , “Mike Enzi was a moral compass for many of us, and he always pointed true north.”
Barrasso said, “As all of us know, Mike was an Eagle Scout – so is his son Brad and his grandson Trey. Later in life, he was awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout. He was a friend and a mentor to me and so many senators on bot sides of the aisle for over 24 years. He knew how to find common ground and bring people together better than anyone else.
US Senator Cynthia Lummis said, “Be it as mayor of Gillette or as a U.S. senator and senior statesman, Wyoming has had no greater champion than Mike Enzi.” Congresswoman Liz Cheney commented, “Mike was an absolute giant in our state and his sudden loss just months after retiring from the U.S. Senate is difficult for all of us to accept.”
Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon also noted Enzi’s commitment to the state, saying, “Mike was a friend and a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about Wyoming and its people… He was a strong advocate for the state’s interests and was always committed to finding consensus where possible.” Services for the former senator are still being planned.
