Evacuees Not Allowed Back Home Tonight

September 1, 2019 by Jackson Hole Radio

saddle butte fire

Firefighters will continue their work to put out the Saddle Butte fire this evening and evacuees will not be able to return home tonight.
Earlier today the fire, which started on the hill across from the Virginian Convention Center, forced the evacuation of residents from Deer Ridge and Hillside condos, Grand Design Building, and Saddle Butte subdivision. Tonight, the Red Cross is finding shelter for them.
Later in the afternoon, Spring Creek Ranch & Resort, Amangani and Pine Siskin Road were put into the “SET” mode of the “Ready, Set, Go” system for evacuations.  The order is to be prepared to evacuate at a moment’s notice. The SET order is still in place.
The fire is estimated at about 250 acres this evening and officials are nor making a prediction on when the fire might be contained.
Resources from Jackson-Teton County Fire/EMS, Bridger Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park, and Teton Interagency Fire have been put on the blaze.
Three helicopters and numerous slurry bombers have worked the fire and a Very Large Air Tanker has also made slurry drops.
Helicopters are retrieving water from the Elk Refuge causing official to stop highway traffic on and off.
Traffic has been severely backed up on Highway 22 and a construction light on Spring Gulch Road had caused delays.
There have been no injuries nor property loss from the fire so far.
