The Northwest Public Power Association (NWPPA) honored exceptional safety achievements at its 2025 Engineering & Operations Conference in Spokane, Washington, on April 23, 2025. The Safety Awards, presented during the conference’s closing banquet, recognized NWPPA member utilities for their 2024 safety performance, evaluated through incident and severity rates reported on safety forms. The awards highlight the utilities’ commitment to fostering safe work environments and protecting employees, reflecting a culture of responsibility across the public power sector.
Kurt Miller, NWPPA CEO and executive director, emphasized that the awards celebrate not just metrics but a dedication to employee safety that strengthens the industry. Over 300 public power professionals attended the banquet, applauding recipients who accepted honors on behalf of their utilities. Awards were categorized into six levels based on hours of exposure, ranging from up to 70,000 hours to over one million. Among the recipients, Fall River Rural Electric Cooperative, based in eastern Idaho, secured a second-place award in the 100,001–150,000 hours of exposure category. First-place honors in this category were shared by Yampa Valley Electric Association of Colorado and Northern Wasco County PUD of Oregon, with Consumers Power Inc. of Oregon taking third place.
