Wyoming Highway Patrol has released a report on their investigation of the double fatal collision this week in Grand Teton National Park. According to the report, the 2019 Dodge Caravan being driven by 64-year-old Craig Aubuchon of Missouri was traveling southbound on US 89 when he drifted into the northbound lane colliding head-on with a 2010 Nissan X-Terra driven by 68-year-old Carol Roemer of Riverton. Both drivers perished in the crash. Driver distraction or fatigue on the part of Aubuchon is being investigated as possible contributing factors. There were four passengers in Aubuchon’s vehicle; 31-year-old Brian Aubuchon, 30-year-old Catherine Aubuchon and two children – all from San Jose, California. All were wearing appropriate restraints and were taken to St. John’s Medical Center for treatment of injuries they sustained. A passenger in Roemer’s vehicle, 78-year-old Dorothy Ashby who is also from Riverton, was transported to St. John’s for her injuries. She was also wearing her seatbelt. These were the 89th and 90th fatalities on Wyoming’s roadways in 2019 compared with 54 in 2018.
