The Soda Lake Fire burning about 25 miles west-southwest of Pinedale has doubled in size Wednesday alone. Now estimated at 80 acres, the fire has been handed over to a Type 3 firefighting team. The Soda Lake fire was first reported Tuesday around 3:00 pm. Aviation and ground resources were immediately dispatched to the fire from Bridger Teton National Forest and Sublette County Unified Fire.
The landscape near Lander Peak is a mixture of subalpine fir, sage, and meadows. However, this area is approximately three miles from the forest boundary with Bureau of Land Management, state, and private land where multiple values are at risk including oil and gas wells. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
