Fire last night destroyed a small barn and its contents on Bedstraw Street in South Park, while sub-freezing temperatures challenged the firefighter, freezing hoses and nozzles by the time the fire was knocked down.
Teton County Fire Marshal Kathy Clay says no one was home when the fire started so the time it began is unknown. “They had a barn detached from the house and the guest house on this property. Really, when we got here it was fully engulfed. So, our job in the fire department when we have a structure that is so consumed is to consider not only to put out that fire, but to protect the other pieces of property.”
Clay says the barn housed a trailer and 11 chickens. Of those 11, seven escaped. Clay says about 30 firefighter and their equipment responded from most of the stations around the valley. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. This marks the second structure fire in Teton County so far this year.
