Teton Interagency fire managers have elevated the fire danger rating to “moderate” for Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest, and the National Elk Refuge. This increase is due to the summer curing of vegetation combined with warmer and windy conditions, raising the potential for fire activity.
A moderate fire danger rating indicates that fires can start from most accidental causes. Unattended campfires and brush fires, particularly on windy days in dry, open areas, have a higher likelihood of escaping. Fire managers determine fire danger by assessing various indicators, including the moisture content of vegetation and dead materials, projected weather conditions, the potential spread of fire after ignition, and the availability of firefighting resources locally and nationally.

As the Independence Day holiday approaches, visitors and local residents are reminded that fireworks are not permitted in Grand Teton National Park, on the Bridger-Teton National Forest, within the National Elk Refuge, or in Sublette and Teton counties in Wyoming. These regulations are crucial for fire prevention.
It is essential for campfires to be attended at all times and to be completely extinguished before leaving. Extinguishing a campfire requires several gallons of water, not just a single water bottle. The process involves soaking the campfire, stirring the ashes, feeling for heat, and repeating until no heat remains. All embers and logs should be broken up and covered with dirt, ensuring the campfire remains are cold to the touch before leaving the area.
