Fire destroys home

A Sunday morning fire destroyed a mobile home in Evans Trailer Park, destroying all the Hernandez family’s possessions as well. The call came in about 7:50 am. Battalion Chief Jim Tucker says the fire started in the back bedroom and spread quickly despite efforts of the mother and daughter who were at home alone at the time to extinguish the blaze. Units from Jackson/Teton County fire stations 1,2,3,6, and 7 responded but were unable to save the structure. Tucker says the mother and daughter escaped unharmed and the son was not at home, but their pet cat was still unaccounted for and believed to have perished in the blaze. The Bridger Teton Branch of the Red Cross is coordinating relief efforts. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
