With the snow piles diminishing and the weather warming, area residents are turning to cleaning up their yards and burning old vegetation or ditches on their property. Teton County Fire Marshal Cathy Clay reminds residents that before they do such a burn, they need to call it in to the dispatch center. However, she also advises those doing the burning to watch for changing weather.
Clay says before starting the burn, be sure a method to extinguish it is readily available, like a garden hose; and keep the fire clear of combustibles that shouldn’t become part of the burn like bushes, trees, lawns, and vehicles. Clay says controlled burns need to be dead out by evening, and dispatch should be advised that the operation has been concluded.
