In addition to more air resources to assist in controlling the brush fire on Saddle Butte , the fire has a new name. It is officially called the Saddle Butte fire.
A team of slurry bombers and one helicopter are involved in the effort now. The Deer Ridge and Hillside Condos, Saddle Butte Subdivision and the Grand Design Building were evacuated early in the fire, and at about 3:15 pm, Spring Creek Ranch & Resort, Amangani and Pine Siskin Road were put into the “SET” mode of the “Ready, Set, Go” system for evacuations.
Helicopters are retrieving water from the Elk Refuge causing official to stop highway traffic on and off.
Broadway was closed for a time this afternoon, but has reopened although unnecessary travel is being discouraged through the fire area.
Traffic has been severely backed up on Highway 22 and a construction light on Spring Gulch Road had caused delays.
Additional resources are being ordered from outside the valley, including a large air tanker. There have been no injuries nor property loss from the fire so far.
