Crews completed a hand line around the Slide Fire which held through the day Sunday. The fire was discovered Friday in the Bridger-Teton National Forest on the Big Piney Ranger District. There are currently 18 smokejumpers and a 20-person hotshot crew fighting this fire alongside local county and federal firefighters.A type 1 helicopter made bucket drops on the fire’s hotspots.
The fire was estimated to be about three acres now, burning in heavy dead and down timber. Fire behavior is moderate at this time but there has been no spread over the past day. The cause of the fire is a lightning strike from a thunderstorm several days ago.
Meanwhile, another fire was discovered on the Kemmerer Ranger District, the Middle Fork Fire in the Commissary Ridge area late Thursday and was estimated to be approximately one acre in size. Firefighters expected containment on that fire over the weekend.
