Fire Trail Fire Kept Cool with Assistance of Firefighting Aircraft

Firefighters on the Bridger-Teton National Forest made good progress today on the Fire Trail Fire due, in part, to the help of aerial firefighting craft which was ordered yesterday to assist with the 50-acre fire on the Greys River Ranger District, four miles south of Alpine, WY on the Greys River road and approximately one mile west in the Squaw Creek drainage.

The fire was kept cool today with the help of one Type 1 helicopter, two Type 3 helicopters and two Fire Boss’, an amphibious scooper air tanker that can deliver 14,000 gallons of water per hour. The two AT802F Fire Boss’ have been scooping water from nearby Palisades Reservoir. Crews on the ground have been working both flanks of the fire and keeping an eye on interior torching and spot fires. The fire is approximately 15% contained.

Due to the fire’s proximity to the Squaw-Murphy route (Forest Road #10001-Forest Trail #3183) and public and fire personnel safety, this route has been closed at the junction with the Greys River Road on the north end and the trailhead on the south end of the route. Please respect this route closure and the speed limit (35 mph) on the Greys River Road to help ensure the safety of everyone using the road as there is an increasing amount of fire traffic.

The human caused wildfire started on August 11 at approximately noon and is being suppressed using multiple management strategies. A Type 3 incident management team has taken over management of the fire, which now has approximately 70 personnel. Type 3 organizations manage fires with a significant number of resources, and where extended attack is anticipated until containment/control of the fire is achieved.

There are currently no evacuations. There will be smoke visible in the area, especially in the evening. For additional information visit www.tetonfires.com and https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/6128/
