Yellowstone National Park’s wildfire season began recently with two lightning-ignited wildfires. The first one called the Sour Fire, was located near the Mirror Plateau, and was spotted by the park’s Mount Washburn Lookout Saturday afternoon. Precipitation fell on the fire shortly after its detection and the fire has not been seen since. Then on Monday evening, the Soda Fire was reported several hundred yards south of the Soda Butte formation in Lamar Valley by a visitor. Fire staff suppressed the fire due to its location. Currently, the fire danger in Yellowstone is considered HIGH. As yet, there are no fire restrictions in the park, but visitors are encouraged to monitor conditions and recreate responsibly, including extreme caution in the use of fire.
