In spite of all the news locally about fire danger and the graphic pictures on national news of major wildfires across the west, there are those who are not taking the situation seriously. Jackson Hole Fire units were called to south highway 89 about 11:30 Wednesday night to a small wildland fire that had been sparked by an individual setting off fireworks. Units from the town of Jackson, Adams Canyon and Hoback responded to the fire. Teton County Fire Marshal Kathy Clay emphasizes that fireworks are illegal at ANY time in all of Teton County, and they are especially dangerous under conditions like we are experiencing now. This was illustrated Wednesday night when the sparks from the pyrotechnics came down into dry grasses and set them on fire. Clay says the fire was confined to just a small area, but in minutes could have become much more serious.
