Flags Lowered for Grant Larson

Governor Mark Gordon has ordered the Wyoming State Flag be flown at half-staff at the Capitol in Cheyenne and in Teton and Fremont Counties from sunrise to sunset on today in honor of Grant Larson. Mr. Larson served in the Wyoming Senate from 1995-2010 representing District 17 and was President of the Senate in 2005 and 2006. Senator Larson died at the age of 87.

Larson had represented District 17 since 1995. He was elected in 1994 and subsequently re-elected in 1998, 2002, and 2006. Larson’s political experience began with his service as Commissioner for Teton County. After being elected to the Wyoming State Senate, he served as Senate Vice President from 2001 to 2002. He later served as Majority Floor Leader from 2003 to 2004.
Larson became President of the Senate in 2005 and served in this position until 2006. In 1968, Larson completed the term of his father, G. Clyde Larson, who was appointed to a six-year term on the Wyoming Highway Commission in 1965, but passed away three years later.
Senator Larson had served in the Air Force as both an officer and a pilot. It was natural then that he would serve on the Wyoming Aeronautics Commission in 2002, and he also twice served on the Jackson Hole Airport Board. Grant and his wife Maralyn had two children. The family will hold a private memorial service to be followed later by a public celebration of life.
