The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a
Flood Watch for portions of northwest Wyoming and west central
Wyoming, including the following areas, in northwest Wyoming,
Jackson Hole. In west central Wyoming, Star Valley.
From late tonight through late Saturday night
Snowmelt below 7,000 feet expected to accelerate Friday
afternoon through early Sunday morning. The ground in many areas
is still frozen which will cause low lying areas to fill with
water very quickly. Low lying areas may become inundated with
the noticeable increase in snowmelt runoff.
People living in known flood prone areas should take extra
precautions to mitigate problems with the expected increase in
low elevation snowmelt. A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
