Governor Mark Gordon is set to return to Park County to host the Wy We Care: Suicide Risk Reduction Community Forum on September 5, from 6-8 p.m. This forum is part of the Governor’s ongoing Mental Health Initiative, which seeks to enhance Wyoming’s approach to mental health care reform.
The Wy We Care Initiative represents a collaborative effort involving all three branches of state government, local community teams, and private sector providers. The initiative’s primary goals include improving access to behavioral health services and strengthening the state’s behavioral healthcare workforce.
The upcoming forum is designed to provide valuable insights for parents, teachers, first responders, mental health professionals, community service providers, and citizens. Attendees will learn about best practices for building healthy communities, reducing suicide risk, and effective intervention strategies.
The event will feature a panel discussion led by local experts, including Oxbow Center CEO Mary Johnson, Park County School District Superintendent Jay Curtis, and Retired Powell Chief of Police Roy Eckerdt, who currently serves as the Executive Officer of the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police and is a board member of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) International. Additionally, Dr. Kent Corso, an internationally recognized suicidologist and founder of PROSPER, will deliver a special presentation. Dr. Corso has been contracted to provide intensive support to the Powell community.
The forum will conclude with a brief Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage directly with the panelists and gain further insights.
A Q&A session will follow the presentations, providing attendees an opportunity to engage with the panelists.
