Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon told a group gathered Tuesday on the Center for the Arts lawn that mandating the wearing of masks is not the way to go. Gordon says he doesn’t believe that such mandates from up high work, and that local control is where that nexus lies. He says the locally elected people of a community can appreciate the circumstances at a local level better. Still, he did not totally discount that wearing masks can help.
“If you look at aerosol that’s going out, and aerosol that’s being sucked in – you know, go out in the winter and breathe out of a mask and breathe out just directly, and you’ll see the aerosol doesn’t go as far. Are they completely fool-proof? No. I don’t believe they are — but you know well that I am really opposed to mandates from on high.”
Gordon emphasized that we know what it takes; being distanced, washing our hands, being mindful of others, being kind, and wearing a mask when you can’t be socially distanced. Gordon added, “If we’re going to eradicate and eliminate this COVID virus, it is going to take community effort and cooperation to do that. Meanwhile, Teton County Health reports 292 new COVID cases here over the past two weeks.
