The Western Governor’s Association wrapped up its fall meeting in Cheyenne Friday night after covering a variety of issues affecting the 19 states and 3 protectorates. Among the issues discussed during the session was the association’s Good Neighbor Authority. Mary Farnsworth, Deputy Forester for the Intermountain Region of the US Forest Service, discussed the good it was doing in a variety of states in this region in dealing with both land management and disaster recovery efforts. She pointed to Wyoming where the program includes more than just the forestry division.
Farnsworth says the scope of Good Neighbor participation in Wyoming is an example of how working with different state agencies can help the US Forest service accomplish projects that both the state and Forest Service have mutual interests in. The GNA is set up for federal agencies to work with state agencies to undertake work on federal lands for forestry, watershed and rangeland improvement.
