Three talented musicians from around the region were selected by the Grand Teton Music Festival to receive scholarships to advance their talents. Normally, the scholarship competition takes place at Walk Festival Hall in Teton Village, but due to the COVID-19 virus, the competition for the scholarships were based on video submissions. From a pool of 19 candidates, the Festival internally selected 8 semi-finalists from which the judges chose the three winners, after which a virtual celebration was hosted by Maestro Donald Runnicles on Zoom. This year’s winners are Flautist Fernando Perez of Boise, Idaho and a future student at Boise State University for a $20-thousand scholarship, Vocalist Jordan Arnold Shawver of Billings, Montana and a future student at Montana State University for a $12,500 scholarship, and Oboist Coleton Morgan of Hartville, Wyoming and a who has been admitted to New England Conservatory, the Peabody Institute, Denver University, and wait-listed for the Eastman School of Music who will receive a $7500 scholarship. Judges for this year’s scholarship were Joel Noyes, Assistant Principal Cello for the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; Stephanie Key, Associate Principal and Eb clarinet for the San Antonio Symphony; and Jerry Hou, Associate Conductor and Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra.
