The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) will launch the “Know Before You Go” invasive species campaign this summer to promote responsible recreation and protect its fragile environment, as detailed on April 1, 2025. The initiative, a collaboration among GYE organizations, educates visitors on preventing the spread of invasive species that threaten native plants and animals across the region’s ecosystems.
Recreators are urged to remove plants, animals, and mud from gear, pets, and vehicles before and after visiting sites, stop at watercraft inspection stations, clean, drain, and dry watersport gear between uses, use local or certified firewood, and stay on designated roads and trails. Chip Jenkins, Superintendent of Grand Teton National Park and Chair of the Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee, emphasized the collective responsibility to preserve the GYE for future generations.
The campaign addresses rising visitation rates, encouraging visitors to share its message using the hashtag #4good4GYE. More information on responsible recreation and the campaign is available at stopais.org/GYE, with partnership inquiries directed to info@stopais.org.
