At last report, Grizzly 399 and her four yearlings were in the Spring Gulch area and heading north. Jackson Police Chief Michelle Weber says, “We hope that she continues in that direction.”
On Tuesday night, the five were roaming through the Town of Jackson after they were spotted just off Pearl Street behind Firehouse 1, and at the Town Hall.
The grizzlies were also spotted on Aspen Drive, Kelly Street, Virginian Lane, and Karns Meadow, and Weber says they eventually were able to haze the bears toward Saddle Butte across from the Virginian Lodge.
The Jackson Police Department is emphasizing the importance of taking steps to ensure that all potential bear attractants are secured, put away and made unavailable.
Garbage in trash cans, left over Halloween pumpkins and bird food are all potential items which bears could feed on as they prepare for hibernation.
Meanwhile, the US Fish and Wildlife Service says they continue to monitor the bears north of Jackson and will provide further updates as they become available.
