
In a sure sign of the arrival of springtime in Jackson Hole, Grand Teton National Park has noted the first Grizzly bear sighting of 2023.
As bears become active this spring, wildlife experts are reminding residents and visitors alike to be bear aware and avoid human-bear encounters.
Bear Wise Jackson Hole, a partnership between the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park and the Jackson Hole Wildlife Foundation. Says to secure attractants of any kind.
If you are exploring the backcountry, be alert and aware of your surroundings.
Make noise, carry bear spray, know how to use it, and keep it readily accessible.
Hike in groups of three or more people and if you see a grizzly, do not run. Back away slowly if you encounter a bear.
