A problem grizzly bear has been euthanized in Grand Teton National Park after it persisted in seeking out human food, getting into trash and bird feeders in a neighborhood on the south end of the park. This is the same 2-year-old male bear that had been relocated to the northern end of the park early in May. However, the bear returned and was trapped.
Game and Fish personnel euthanized the animal May 22nd because it had become habituated. Game and Fish personnel remind residents that considering the bear activity in their area, precautions should be taken so that attractants are not made available to the animals. This includes securing garbage so it cannot be accessed by bears, hang bird feeders out of the reach of bears, do not leave pet food outside.
