Grand Teton National Park has welcomed an all-female fire crew for the summer. The Montana Conservation Core deployed the crew to work in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Crew Member Emily Owens says generally the fire environment tends to be very macho, and in such an atmosphere, she found she was unable to really challenge herself and grow in the field since there was always somebody faster and stronger. She says being in an all-women crew will provide her an opportunity to grow and develop her skills. The project was made possible in part through a grant from the National Park Foundation and funds from both corporate and individual donors.
