Jackson Hole Crimestoppers is sounding cautions as area residents celebrate the Halloween holiday. Crimestoppers reminds parents of children who go out trick-or-treating this Halloween to make sure drivers can easily see the children. Have them wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Urge them to travel in groups, and make sure small children are accompanied by an adult. They should be coached not to be distracted by a cell phone during the trick-or-treating rounds, and cross only at corners. Crimestoppers suggest you have children trick-or-treat in neighborhoods where the residents are known, and check the children’s spoils for possible tampering before allowing them to eat them. Better still, encourage them to participate in community Halloween activities like trick-or-treating around the square or in organized and supervised parties. Halloween pranksters need to know there is a difference between a prank and vandalism. A prank that leaves damage in its wake is nothing less than a criminal act. If you see others engaging in inappropriate behavior, report it to authorities immediately by calling 733-2331.
