On this day in 1872, Yellowstone became the world’s first national park. As a studio and subject, Yellowstone has inspired art for over 147 years and continues to inspire a new generation of artists today. This timeless painting by Thomas Moran captured a landscape unknown then to a predominantly eastern US population and helped bring back glimpses of the treasures that Yellowstone held after the Hayden Expedition in 1871. Happy birthday, Yellowstone!
