Healthcare Workers and First Responders in Blood Study

April 6, 2020 by Jackson Hole Radio

New information has been coming out of studies of the COVID-19 virus, particularly regarding antibodies that have been produced as a result of exposure or recovery from a mild case of the virus. St. John’s Health has joined in those studies, and CEO Dr. Paul Beaupre says community health providers and emergency responders have been invited to participate in a blood serum study to determine whether they have developed such antibodies.
Beaupre said, “This pilot group was selected because it was a group that was considered to have the greatest exposure to this virus. Because there is such a shortage of data upon which to make certain decisions, it will be interesting and probably very useful about the extent to which our participants have developed immunity.”
Beaupre says the study was made possible by a donation from a local businessman. National health officials say if they discover some people have developed immunity, it will allow more people to return to their jobs in the community if they have them.
