Highway Patrol Reminds On DUI

The Wyoming Highway Patrol and Wyoming Department of Transportation are urging motorists to make sure they get to their destinations safe by never driving drunk. Lt. Matt Brackin of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says troopers will be on duty through the holidays to help ensure the safety of those on the road. Brackin says, “We will have additional troopers out and available. We will be looking for targeted enforcement activity, specifically around DUI enforcement as well as occupant restraint enforcement during this time frame.” However, Lt. Brackin points out that troopers are also there to provide assistance to motorists who encounter problems in their travels. He says, “This is certainly the time of year when people have to deal with inclement weather; if there are some slide-offs we are there to help get people out – call a wrecker if we need to – and assist in any way that we can.” The number of alcohol-related fatalities in Wyoming have fluctuated over the past five years. WYDOT’s Highway Safety program indicated there were 40 fatalities in 2017, 32 in 2016, 54 in 2015, 51 in 2014 and 28 in 2013. The patrol reminds that if your partying involves drinking alcoholic beverages, have a designated driver or taxi take you home.
