A 43-year-old Dayton, Ohio man collapsed and died Monday afternoon while on a hike with his family on a popular trail in Grand Teton National Park. According to a statement by the park, the Teton Interagency Dispatch Center received a call shortly before 4:00 pm that the man had collapsed about two miles from the Lupine Meadow trailhead. Bystanders had begun CPR with coaching by phone from park rangers. A team of rangers with medical equipment responded on foot and via helicopter which also flew in advanced life support. However, by 5:17 pm in consultation with the park’s medical director, resuscitation efforts were terminated. The man’s name was not immediately made available and the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.
