Holiday Travel Will Be Busy

If you are planning on going anywhere next week for the holidays, you won’t be alone. AAA Auto Club forecasts that more than one-third of the American public will travel this holiday season. The record-breaking 112.5 million travelers taking to the nation’s highways, roads and rails for the year-end holidays represents a 4.4 percent increase over last year, and it is the most since AAA has been tracking holiday travel. An estimated 102-million people will pack up their cars for a holiday road trip, and AAA predicts travel times in the most congested cities in the U.S. – primarily on either coast – could be as much as four times longer than a normal trip for them. 6.7-million people plan to travel by air and 3.7 will travel by train or bus. AAA defines the year-end holiday travel period as Saturday, December 22nd through Tuesday, January 1st, but quickly adds that Thursday, December 20this expected to be the worst day for travel.
