A fire in a Teton Village home shortly before 1:30 am Friday caused moderate damage to the home when hot embers entered the ash clean-out box below the fireplace and ignited some unburned materials in it. Teton Village Fire Chief Jon Bishop says there was nothing wrong with the installation and its construction actually kept the fire from spreading further. He says the homeowner contacted the fire department when the homes fire alarm sounded and he discovered smoke coming from the below-grade ash-box. Damage was limited to water damage in the vicinity of the fireplace.
