Quick action on the parts of firefighters prevented a house fire on Meadow Road Tuesday from becoming more serious. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Chief Brady Hanson says the fire was confined inside the wall and chimney chase around and below a fireplace. Units from Jackson and Grand Teton National Park responded and doused the fire by opening up the wall. Hanson says most of the damage was limited to that activity and the family was able to return to their home after the fire. Hanson says it is unclear how the fire escaped the firebox and got into the wall, but he urges those who have stoves and fireplaces to have their chimneys swept and the installations checked annually. This fireplace had been in place since the home was built in 1991.
