In a letter to the Jackson Mayor and Councilmembers Shelter JH, an affordable housing group, has asked the elected officials to halt all new development and building permits in the Town of Jackson for one year or until the town is able to update its zoning standards to incentivize and regulate the production of homes that locals can afford.
The group stated, “As our elected officials your job is to protect the public health safety and welfare of your constituents. The lack of affordable homes in our community impacts all of the constituents.”
Shelter JH asked, among other things, to reinstate fourth story incentives for deed restricted and to require on-site affordable housing components for all commercial development and redevelopment like those at REI and Target.
“Our housing crisis is getting worse every summer we’re being forced out by rent increases and… our apartments are demolished to make room for new corporate hotels and luxury condos we’re losing homes every year”, the group stated
The Town has not yet officially responded to the request.
