The nation’s most sparsely populated state just got smaller. For the third straight year, the rate of Wyomingites leaving the state has outpaced the number of residents coming into it, according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau. The burau’s latest estimates indicate Wyoming’s population decreased by nearly 1,200 people between July 2017 and 2018, bringing the state’s total resident population now to just under 577,737. That’s lower than the state’s peak population of just over 586,000 in the Bureau’s 2015 estimates. At the same time, nearly 1,900 more people were born in Wyoming this past year than died. However, the state lost 3,100 people to migration.
