An avalanche has claimed the lives of two boys in Teton Valley, Idaho. At about 3 PM on Friday, the Teton County Idaho Sheriff’s Office received a report of an avalanche near Relay Ridge in the vicinity of Ryan Peak, west of Driggs. It was reported that two juveniles had been buried under the avalanche. One of the boys was riding a snowmobile and another was skiing at the time.
Search and Rescue teams from Teton County and Madison County, Idaho, and Teton County, Wyoming, as well as Air Idaho responded to the scene. The bodies of the two young males were recovered. The cause of the avalanche is under investigation. The names of the deceased juveniles are being withheld at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office said that they encourage everyone to make themselves aware of avalanche conditions and other adverse weather conditions before recreating in backcountry areas.
Avalanche danger in the area is listed as moderate to considerable.
