Troopers with the Idaho State Police are joining law enforcement agencies throughout the state this holiday with increased patrols to remove DUI drivers from Idaho roadways. The effort comes at a time when many celebrations often include alcohol, and traffic fatalities across Idaho are at a 15-year high according to the Idaho Transportation Department Office of Highway Safety.
Idaho’s stepped-up efforts will remain in effect through the New Years’ weekend. Meanwhile, Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers will be on high alert to stop impaired, distracted, or reckless drivers to ensure everyone can have an enjoyable/safe holidays season.
The patrol says this time of year, there will be an increase in traffic as motorists take to the road to see family and friends for the holidays. Patrol officials say the state has witnessed that 68% of the motorists fatally injured in motor vehicle collisions this year have not been wearing a seatbelt.
They stress the importance of wearing a seatbelt properly and confirming that everyone in the vehicle is also wearing a seatbelt before heading out to a destination this holiday season.
