Alpine Fire Department has been on scene of a home that exploded early yesterday morning near the Alpine airport. Two state fire investigators and DCI have also arrived and will start today digging into debris.
Interviews were conducted yesterday as well as mapping and drone pictures but Alpine Fire Chief Mike Vogt says as yet there has been no determination of a cause. The incident occurred at about 4:30 Monday morning, completely demolishing the home. Fortunately, there was no one home at the time. Emergency responders reported a strong smell of propane in the vicinity.
Meanwhile, The investigation continues into the cause of another explosion and fire that leveled a Teton County, Idaho home and left one man seriously injured. According to Fire Chief Bret Campbell, the first arriving Fire units discovered a building approximately 2,000 sq. ft. had exploded with fire burning in three areas of the rubble, a down power transmission line, and a small group of citizens providing aid to one injured individual. Firefighters removed the patient, began providing emergency medical services, and evacuated the people from the area for safety. The patient, 73-year-old Rodney Taylor was transported via air ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and later transferred to the University of Utah burn center.
