Should the Town of Jackson change the minimum short-term rental from 31 days to 90 days?
It’s a question that they have been tossing around for quite some time and they will bring it back for discussion at a workshop meeting scheduled for Monday.
Public sentiment has been split between those who view the longer minimum rental as a way to add more rental opportunities for local workers, and those who think the current length is appropriate.
Currently, the Town’s short-term-rental rules is that homeowners in residential zones are allowed to rent their units for less than 31 days once per month and that these rentals still qualify as a residential use.
Many say that creates an incentive to not lease to long term renters.
Planners noted that a 90-day minimum stay requirement is more aggressive than many other municipalities and would limit ability of some local homeowners to rent for shorter periods and obtain some extra income. It would limit rental opportunities for local workforce who only need a month or two lease.
The council will hear the arguments for several options to update the Short Term Rental rules beginning at their 130PM workshop session on Monday.
