Jackson Hole Giants look competitive

July 11, 2022 by Jackson Hole Radio

The weekend at the Mountain West World Series in Cheyenne did not produce tangible success for the Giants—they went 1-4—but Jackson looked very competitive in two close losses.
Cheyenne 4, Jackson 2
Moral victory for the Jackson Giants as they hung with perennial powerhouse Cheyenne Sixers behind a 2-hit effort from Mason Wright.
The Giants even out hit the Sixers 7-2, including doubles from Ethan Garner, Lucas Gralund, and Xander Witt.
A close game against a team that has dominated Wyoming American Legion baseball for the last two decades with 18 state championships over a 21-year period. The Sixers came into the weekend tournament with a record of 43-9.
Colorado Cannons 14, Jackson 1
Jackson got down early to the Cannons Friday afternoon and just could not recover. Xander Witt (6-6) gave Coach Jason Huggins all he had for 4 2/3 innings but the Cannons knocked him around pretty good.
Ayden Gralund picked up 2 of the 4 Giants base hits.
Rocky Mountain 2, Jackson 1
A real pitcher’s duel ended in a heartbreaking loss to the Lobos who won it in walkoff fashion in the bottom of the 7th.
Aaron Huggins was spectacular on the mound, tossing just 52 pitches over 5 innings. He did not surrender a hit or a run. Trayson Kostial took the loss in relief.
Jackson 12, Cheyenne Hawks 11
Post 43 got the offense going big time in Saturday night’s come from behind win over the Hawks. The Giants exploded for 7 runs in the top half of the 7th and then held on to close the deal with Matt Fisher picking up the save.
Fisher was also 3-4 at the plate with a double and 3 RBIs.
Colorado Cannons 12, Jackson 5
A rematch with the Cannons Sunday morning didn’t go any better for the Giants. Jackson fell behind early and never could get back in it.
Ethan Garner (0-6) was tagged with the loss, though the lefty did manage a pair of doubles while knocking in 2. Matt Fisher was also 2-4 with a ribbie.
Next up
Post 43 is now 24-31 on the year with a stand-alone double header with Rock Springs in their place on Tuesday.
