The Bureau of Reclamation will hold its annual information meeting to discuss streamflow forecasts and projected reservoir operations for Jackson Lake Dam and other upper Snake River reservoirs. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 23, at 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time, at the Teton County Library, Ordway Auditorium, in Jackson, Wyoming. There will be both in-person and virtual attendance options.
Representatives from various agencies, including the National Weather Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Grand Teton National Park, will attend the event. The primary focus will be on the runoff forecast for the Snake River near Heise, Idaho, the water supply outlook, river flow management, and current snowpack conditions.
The current runoff forecast stands at 93% of the average, with Jackson Lake’s storage at 82% of capacity. The lake is projected to be nearly full by June, with moderate storage release demand expected over the summer. By fall, the lake level is anticipated to be around 76% full.
The total precipitation for the water year to date in the Snake River headwaters watershed is 96% of the average, and the current snowpack is 93% of the average. Given the current snowpack, the flood risk along the Snake River in Teton County is low, although downstream tributaries may experience high flows during the snowmelt season.
The meeting will also address flood operations, coordinated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Reclamation. More information on current river and reservoir data can be found on the Bureau of Reclamation’s website.
