On November 5th, 2015 at 5:26 p.m., Idaho State Police investigated a crash on U.S. Highway 20 near milepost 375, approximately 14 miles north of Ashton, Idaho. Gregory Griffith, 52 of Jackson, Wyoming was westbound on US-20 in a Toyota Tacoma. There was snow and ice on the roadway. Griffith lost control of his vehicle and slid into oncoming traffic, where the truck was struck by a Toyota pickup driven by James Staggs, 55 of Island Park, Idaho.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Griffith succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Notifications have been made to his family. Staggs was transported by ground ambulance to Madison Memorial Hospital in Rexburg, Idaho.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes were blocked until 7:40 p.m., when the westbound lane was opened to allow traffic to flow past the scene. The eastbound lane opened approximately 45 minutes later.
Idaho State Police was assisted by Fremont County Sherriff’s Office, Island Park Ambulance, Madison Ambulance, and Idaho Fish and Game.
