The Jackson Police face a shortage of staff, protective masks, other protective equipment. It’s one of the major concerns during the novel coronavirus epidemic is for Jackson Hole’s emergency services. Police Chief Todd Smith told a joint meeting of the town council and county commission that while the police department is as prepared as it can be, the department doesn’t have much personal protective equipment. That includes a limited number of N-92 facemasks. Furthermore, with 20 police officers on staff with two at the police academy and four out sick. Four more positions are not filled. Smith told the two boards that if he can keep all of his officers healthy, covering all the needs of the community will be a challenge now. If exposure to the coronavirus cuts into the force, there will be some very real challenges. During the meeting, it was also recognized that other emergency services like EMS and the volunteer fire department face the same circumstances.
