On Wednesday, April 24th at 5:00 PM, the Town of Jackson will host a special reception at Town Hall to celebrate a newly formed Sister City relationship with Hueyotlipan, a city in Tlaxcala, Mexico. This event marks the beginning of a promising partnership and will feature the ceremonial signing of Sister City documents.
The decision to forge a Sister City connection with Hueyotlipan was influenced by shared geographical features and cultural heritage, as well as a significant historical connection—over the past forty years, many individuals of Tlaxcalan descent have moved to and settled in Jackson. This linkage was formalized earlier this year when Jackson’s Town Council passed a resolution acknowledging these bonds.
Dignitaries to Attend
The celebration will also welcome notable guests, including Governor Lorena Cuéllar Cisneros of Tlaxcala and Luís Ángel Roldán Carrillo, Municipal President of Hueyotlipan. Governor Cuéllar Cisneros will also be inaugurating a new advisory and support service center for Tlaxcalan immigrants in Jackson, named “Casa Tlaxcala,” which opens its doors the following day.
Adding to the festivities, the Center for the Arts will host a Cultural Celebration of Tlaxcala later that evening at 7:00 PM. This event will showcase performances by Tlaxcalan artists and offer attendees a taste of Mexican cuisine prepared by culinary students from Central Wyoming College.
These events not only celebrate the new Sister City relationship but also highlight the rich cultural contributions of the Tlaxcalan community to Jackson. All residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in these activities and embrace this new chapter in Jackson’s community life.
