Michael Glover, a resident of Jackson, Wyoming, will participate in the 129th Boston Marathon on April 21st as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC) team, announced on March 20th. Glover and over 500 runners from across the U.S. and beyond aim to raise $8.5 million for cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The 36th annual DFMC event directs all funds to the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research, which has collected over $132 million since 1990.
The marathon follows the historic route from Hopkinton to Boston, organized by the Boston Athletic Association, which recognized Dana-Farber as a charity partner in 1990. The DFMC team provides fundraising support, training from 1976 champion Jack Fultz, and invitational entries for non-qualified runners. Glover, as an invitational runner, commits to raising $10,000, while own-entry runners pledge $4,000. Participants include cancer survivors, patients, and their supporters.
Donations can be made through the DFMC website or by contacting the challenge office at 617-632-1970 or dfmc@dfci.harvard.edu. The Barr Program, founded in 1987 by Dana-Farber trustees J. Wayne and Delores Barr Weaver, advances early-stage cancer research.
